Electrical Safety Tips and Guidelines

Is Electricity Dangerous? Surely many of us say “It is”. We know that improper use of electricity would bring us to a lot of trouble and worst even death.

Did you know that the harder the electrical wirings the better? Place permanent electrical wirings inside rigid conduits for safety. Open wire insulations can be easily destroyed. These are some of my basic electrical safety tips and below are the lists of electrical safety tips.

Multiple Electrical Outlets

1. Outlets designed for one of two plugs are not meant for multiple connections. By doing so, this may cause fire due to electrical overload.

Shielding Electrical outlets

2. Electrical outlets within reach of children should be shielded with detachable plastic covers to their plates should be replaced with built-in covers. Cords crossing pathways can cause family members to trip over. They should be hidden from view.

Unplugging Cord

3. When unplugging, do not just pull the cord, hold and pull off the plug instead.

Light Switches

4. Touching light switches or connected plugs with wet hands can cause electrical shock.

 Electrical Wire Protection

5. Be sure electrical wires are corrected sized and protected. Faulty electrical wiring is a common cause of household fire.

Wall Outlets

6. Use wall outlets not lamp sockets to connect appliances. Plugging into lamp sockets can cause fire.

Combustible Materials

7. Keep combustible materials such as clothing, curtains, or newspapers away from heating devices.

Spillage and Short Circuit

8. Avoid placing vases or wine glasses on top of television sets or any electrical appliance. Spillage may cause short circuit.

Blown-out Fuses

9. Never bridge blown-out fuse with wire or other conductors. Always use standard-rated fuses for replacement.
